I vote for Stevie Wonder. A prolific performer, entertainer, singer, and musician from an early age, he had many great albums and singles and influenced the direction of soul music. My favorite album is I Was Made To Love Her, Tamla 279. Stevie has recorded for over 40 years going strong, and is an American icon. He was and is a musical visionary, who mixed genres and wasn’t afraid to experiment. Who doesn’t love watching Stevie perform live, dark sunglasses on, head hung back, totally emersed in his music?
What do you think?

Aretha Franklin’s music is timeless. Generations of women in my family can all sit around a sing Aretha songs. Her music infuses the listener with feelings of sexiness, power, attitude and soul.

To stay on the soul theme, the Funk Brothers contributed the most to the popularization of black music to white audiences. The “Motown” Sound they created and performed gave the area its name. Without their talents Barry Gordy would have been just another guy with a failed record label.
