About once a month or Justin and I “draft” records, meaning we propose deals where we each get to take home records for ourselves. We hustle, cheat, lie, beg, borrow, and deal our way into trying to get what we want. It’s high stakes and always the highlight of why we do what we do.

We did the 78s yesterday after the LPs. We separated them into groups of 6 by genre: blues/r&b and country/hillbilly/honky tonk. We flipped for draft picks and in each group the winner could choose between picks 1,4,5 or 2,3,6. We snatched up the obvious ones with the high picks but my favorite by far after bringing them home was an old Hank Snow titled, “Music Makin’ Mama From Memphis”. The title alone intrigued me at the shop, but as it was a Hank Snow record, fairly easy to come across, it fell to like a 4th pick or something.

Posting 78 audio is a pain in the ass, so instead follow this youtube link to watch Hank and the boys playing this song live on the Perry Como show.

I drove my wife nuts as I jammed this tune on the old cabinet player like 10 times in a row while dancing like a madman around the living room.
