Recorded at the Morgan Sound Theatre in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on the Stinger record label, also from Ypsilanti.
I didn’t think it could get any better than anything on Pathway, but this challenges the material found there. How could I not be excited about any 1972 low-budget, (umm, country-psych?) coming from my hometown of Ypsi? Especially with a Kerouac-esque title and a song about popping pills while driving the big rig down the open road, heading back to De-troit…
This record doesn’t disappoint. I’m going to let you listen to a couple of tracks while I just quote from the liner notes rather than review it any more myself.
“Ty Cool, yes his real name, has been involved with music for most of his life…”
“However, his interests during this time were not strictly confined to music and entertaining, for Ty obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Eastern Michigan University…Ty’s other interests include marine biology, medicine, a variety of sports and hobbies, and composing.”
“In September, 1972, Ty combined his musical talents with those of Tom Thiersch to from the highly successful duo, Ty & Tom.”
“Tom’s extracurricular activities include such sports as tennis and water skiing, and driving his sports car to weekend rallies, and of course, to the ‘gig’…Although an accomplished bassist, Tom’s talents as a lead guitarist have also been called upon in several of the groups with which he has performed.”
Also note that the drummer on this record is a mystery. His name is simply listed as “George”, with the quotation marks and all. His name is mentioned again in the “Special Thanks” section of the back cover as their “oscillating drummer”.
