I’ve been heavy into XM, listening mostly to the Joint, 50s, Deep Tracks (especially Bob Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour), The Rhyme, even their Kids channel. Been itching to get back into my vinyl collection more - it sits and sits and waits for me. I wander by with Ella, look at the titles, think about it….and then a night like tonight, where I’m up late, I’m on my headphones with XM rather than wake the wife and baby with loud record playing.
Discovered African Head Charge through the Joint. And of course Bob Dylan has been serving it up like I remembered. I have my complaints of course, but don’t want to get into right now.
Been on winter break, actually. I should be getting a new record player to record shortly, so then I’ll post more tracks….I’ve got a few piled up here I’ve been meaningto share and tell you all about.
Well, Ella is about two months old which explains my lack of posting here. But I don’t really care because I like spending time with her over blogging anyway. But there’s always that pull that lures me back to the keyboard to pump more entries here.
I’m going into Cousins tomorrow to check out a couple new collections that Justin pulled in - the most recent being a referral from ol’ Tape Man. Old school hip hop and supposedly another soul 45 batch. Looking forward to looking through, maybe doing some drafting, and playing a round of disc golf in the 10″ of snow that we have here in Michigan.
Been keeping up with what Justin’s been putting in there - after that Jazz collection came a nice Beatles batch which I think just ended. I know he had some good rock LPs to put in there next and then I imagine he’ll start with the hip-hop 12″ collection followed by the soul 45s. And possibly a few more surprises thrown in there as I bet the phone will start ringing heavily over the next few weeks for the New Year and we’ll buy least one more collection.
Don’t forget to catch the Pistons-Celtics Round 2 tomorrow (Saturday night) at Detroit. Should be another classic.
So, what have you been listening to?

Recap 07:
listen to Davd Ruffin’s first recording on Anna:
Do you remember CJ Surge, aka The Electrifying Mojo of the infamous 80s underground Detroit funk radio program, “The Electrifying Mojo and The Midnight Funk Association“?
listen to A side:
And of course, the biggest smash of ‘07 …it’s all about Back To Ypsilanti!

I posted a lot of obscure Michigan 45s - along with soul there was garage, bluegrass, and gospel. Two notables from way up north in Traverse City - here’s Crocket’s Roaches In The Ashtray and The Rod Wilson Group’s Back To Mulberry Road:

Jheri Curl Awesomeness:
One of my favorite posts of 07 was our list of all-time greatest artists who sported the Jheri Curl hair style. That led to one of the artists on the list, Durell Coleman, emailing me and thanking me for including him on the list.
….So much great music has come out of Michigan, and it’s fun to re-discover all those lost gems. Here’s a doo-wop/early rock n roll number by the Five Emeralds on SRC, Let Me Take You Out Tonight:
