A few months back, I was drinking beers in the basement listening to records and put on a private press Christian rock LP called, “One Man Show” by Don Wharton. Now, it’s sometimes a good idea to post in this frame of mind but not always. But I went ahead with it and later followed up with a mock advertisement for the dollar store featuring the cover from that record, with Don and his family.
I was pleased but somewhat embarrased to read that Don himself had commented on the post. I was obviously having some fun with the record with my write-up, but Don was the best of sports about it, even ignoring the fact that I said his wife was “weird/nice looking” (I have no idea what I meant when I wrote that but I edited it today to just “nice looking”.
Don left a link to his website, promoting his business as a performer in the Christian music industry. It’s great to see that he’s made a career out of it, even performing at the Pentagon. Don was also a survivor of a place crash into the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska, and there’s an interesting story about that on the site as well.
It’s always nice to when we write about obscure music figures of the past and they respond letting us know where they are today. Because of the posts we wrote, we corresponded with Durell Coleman, several of Lee Osler’s children, Ford Nix’s barber, Chip Pace, Al Reid, and a few others.
Thanks again, Don! Cheers!
