Fascination was an independent label formed in Detroit in the late 50s, putting out early rock and roll as well as some doo-wop and soul. The Lincoln Trio were one of those early rock and rollers, and can truly be classified as garage. What makes this 45 interesting is the drumming that is featured in the intro and throughout the track. The guitar work is in that minimalistic, twangy, almost exotica style that was somewhat common (although a sought after sound) for that era. This is officially filed away as something I might dig into if I ever have anything to do with producing a soundtrack for a film (which I’m sure I never will but it’s fun to think that it’s a possibility).
Songs always remind me of other songs, or other times I’ve played songs for people. Max and Nick came over recently and I played them this Michigan garage 45 - which was, I have to say, a ”mind-blower” for both of them, and this crazy Michigan gospelgrass track, which blew their mind in a different sort of way, but prompted Max to comment that it would also make for a fine addition to perhaps any soundtrack for a film. Max also offered to trade me this for the Rod Wilson Group. I thought about it, but I probably won’t.
