We’ll still be there Saturday, but maybe not til noon.

My laptop is down so the posting is slow.

I’ve been experimenting with record player set-ups lately. Downstairs in the basement I have my RE Cerwin Vegas with the 12″ subs, a late 90s Sony Receiver, and two ion turntables connected by a simple Gemini pre-amp Scratchmaster mixer. Upstairs I have my early 60s Magnavox cabinet player, but it’s in need of repair. I may move it to the garage, where I am planning on fixing up a game room with pool table, darts, and pinball machine. So that leaves the living room in need, and I did have a late 70s nice Pioneer receiver with woodbase 70s Onkyo record player with some big Sansui floor speakers. This combo was nice together - everything was similar in terms of quality and style and the sound had soul. But my wife Jess said the big floor speakers had to go (while the basement is my domain the living room is hers), so I had to replace the big Sansui’s with some Boston Acoustics shelf speakers - like a 6″ sub and a tweeter. The result is mixed - it sounds good with modern stuff, jazz, and most of XM satt. radio but rhythm and blues and even more bass heavy stuff just lacks the warmth and soul of bigger speakers.

So I’ll see how this combo goes but I may do some more fiddling. If my garage turns out well I won’t be sad to move the cabinet player there. I know in the future the brief combo I had going in the living room will be reunited.

Resting in Lazy Boy now after hard week, watching sports, dog in lap. Thinking about another beer.
