Ypsilanti’s Own Corner Brewery Facilities Manager/Halcyon Sundaze Host and Creator/Brewer/Sweet Vintage Bicycle Owner/Cousin Geoff’s Neighbor/DJ Superstar, Dannyboy.
Last Sunday was the second Halcyon Sundaze of the season at the Corner Brewery. As always, Dannyboy brewed up a special batch of Halcyon wheat ale, and we brought a ton of dollar records to sell. I thought it was one of the best ones yet. DJs rotated throughout the day, I think there were five of us, and everyone had it going on. Each DJ played a different style, but all captured the vibe of Halcyon Sundaze.
I went on around 8:00, and played back-to-back Ypsilanti songs, first Nancy Adams “Ypsilanti”, followed by Lee Osler’s “Back toYpsilanti”, which drew cheers
. My theme this time was playing uptempo love songs in the reggae, funk, soul, and afro-funk genres.
Dannyboy followed my set by playing from only the selection of dollar records he got from us that day! I don’t know how he did it, but it was awesome.
The best part, though, was the people. It’s what makes Halcyon Sundaze so much fun. Everyone at the Corner is there together. Children running around, old people, young people, neighbors, visitors from Ann Arbor, just good people all there to have fun on a Sunday.
The next event is tentatively scheduled for July 25th - hope to see you there!
-Cousin Geoff
