***UPDATED*** more songs added
Well I’m fired up about the Tigers this year. So many possibilities of how the season could go. Will D-Train make his comeback? Is Austin Jackson really AL ROY material? Will Guillen and Maggs be old or sweet? Is this Cabrera’s year to dominate like he could? Will Inge’s knees hold up? Will Verlander keep on being Verlander? Is Zumaya really back? We have a new closer, a rookie second baseman, a new #3 starter, and Johnny Damon.
Whatever the case, I’m excited to have a full spring and summer of lazy twilight baseball watching. The new season for the Tigers kicks off at 4:00 so I thought I’d warm things up with some Tigers songs.

What’s that you say? I said the Tigers won again today! Grab your hat and head to Michigan and Trumble, the Tigers take no prisoners when they rumble! Tiger Dynasty, from 1984 by the Sun Messengers, the current Pistons house band.

Another from ‘84. Sorry MJ.

Gino Danelli also had this fantastic song about Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns, who just had an auction where you could have bought the robe he wore against Hagler for about a grand. ‘84 again, here’s Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now Tigers.

Two for the price of one here from Little Tino and the Hawaiians, yet another from ‘84. Want more of Little Tino check out this classic low budget Detroit video of him with the Howlin’ Diablos.
Crazy ‘Bout Those Tigers:
Bleacher Boogie:

Here’s one from ‘68, Artie Fields “Go Get ‘Em Tigers!”
Well, I have more but I’m out of time for today. I’ll post the rest in time for the home opener.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!

Here’s some more!

From the same label that put out The Wanted’s Midnight Hour, here’s the York Mills Trio doing Sock it to ‘em Tigers.

Of course I can’t leave out “Bless You Boys” by Curtis Gadson & Loren Woods, perhaps the quintessential ‘84 song. On the Go 4 it (WDIV) record label.

Hoping to capitalize on the success of Bless You Boys, ol’ Curtis Gadson put out this part 2 version, Bless You Boys-Do it Again. This 45 is much more rare, I’ve only found this once compared to maybe a dozen copies of the first Bless You Boys.
The flip to this is also great: Curtis shows off his pipes like he was Durell Coleman with an awesome Tigers version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.

And I can’t leave out 31 game winner and World Series Champion ace pitcher/jazz organ hipster/crimester Denny McClain and his “At The Organ” record on Capitol. From the back cover:
“I am proud of this album,” Denny says. And then, stomping on the gas pedal of his bright red Pontiac as he swings onto the freeway from the Livernois off-ramp, he makes another comment:
“When it’s all said and done some day in the future,” he muses, “I hope they will remember Denny McLain as an outstanding professional musician.” (Notes by Dave Dexter Jr.)
Well, at least Cousins Vinyl is giving you some love now, Ace. Hope that’s good enough for you. Check out this snippet of “For Me.” It’s no Jimmy Smith, but it ain’t bad either. Let’s see you do that Verlander!
I’ll close this post with the beloved Ernie Harwell and his ‘68 World Series call. What an inspiration Ernie is to all of us Tigers fans. If you haven’t heard, April 9th, the Tigers home opener date, is now officially Ernie Harwell Day. We love you Ernie - thanks for everything!

Has Kurt or the BYB crew seen this? It’s fantastic!
And the Tigers are slotted for third unless the Twins or Sox really take a nasty fall.

You must have something from Ernie Harwell in that collection! I know he wrote at least one catchy Tigers song in his time.
