Got them old writer’s block blues. Got a bunch of posts sitting in my head, waiting to be written. Got a little time this week, so let’s see if I can get the ball rolling just a little.
Next post will be on LLIC magazine. My friend Erik Simmons created it, and it’s super dope, major, major potential. I’m real happy for him for finally getting out the first issue, avaiable for sale online. Halcyon Sundaze regulars DJ Rene and Matt G are both in there. We’ll be at an event hosted by LLIC called Art at the Laundromat in downtown Ypsilanti this Saturday. There’s going to be DJs playing funk/boogie along with art for sale. I’ll post details.
About the blog updates - I haven’t been updating but that doesn’t mean it’s gone. It comes and goes, a big wave has passed and things are calm at the moment. I’m thinking about doing a post called “Cousins Vinyl Anthology #1″ that highlights some of the posts of these past 4-5 years or whatever’s it’s been, as our archive system is not very good.
Idea of mine: Name something “Woodruff’s Groove”, a take on Woodruff’s Grove, what Ypsilanti/Ypsilanti township used to be called.
I’m on twitter like EVERYDAY. Follow me here. I’m always posting there; maybe that’s the culprit of the blog being neglected.
What else is going on? Michigan Roots Jamboree this weekend in Riverside Park in Ypsilanti. John Sinclair’s in town, promoting his new book on Sun Ra. He’ll be at Crazy Wisdom bookstore in Ann Arbor Wed. night. I probably will be there, as well as the Art at the Laundromat Saturday night. Next Halcyon is the last Sunday of August, and as always we’ll have some good boxes of dollar records as well as a few surprises.
As far as the record store, we now have Cousins Vinyl messenger bags. Buy one for $10 and fill it for $20 at the dollar store, can fit about 30 records in them. We’ll also be open on Saturdays only starting in Sept, from 10-6.
And speaking of that, we have a major announcement to make soon. Details coming, but we are closing down our ebay store - we were one the the top 5 biggest record stores on ebay - and are going to have all those records available in our physical location for $5 each. We’ll have a grand opening for that - stay tuned. All these records we’ll be selling for $5 had been listed online for $12, so there’s going to be some good stuff and some good deals. Just like the doollar store, no bs, just straight good records at a good set price.
Right now? I’m listening to Hugh Masekela, “Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz”, it is maybe my favorite record of the past year.
I finally posted something.
:),
Cousin Geoff
