It’s time for another installment of….

Guess That Sample!

Here’s the game: as I notice old funk, jazz, and soul tracks sampled by rap/hip hop artists, I post the original on the site. Then you try to see if you can recognize who sampled it. I reveal the answer, and you can listen to the sampled version. You feel happy and proud for guessing correctly, or sad and disappointed for not knowing the answer.

Last time we played Guess That Sample I threw out a fairly obscure one, but this time it’s maybe a bit more obvious.

Here’s the fun part - if you know who it is, and you can guess it correctly, you win a free dollar record. Just tell one of the Cousins that you knew the answer to Guess That Sample, and you will be entitled to a free record from the dollar store.

Here’s the original, called Be Alright by Zapp:

Now, click “read the rest…” to see who sampled this and to listen to the cut.

Thanks for your patience as we get started with this blog site.  We’re starting to get visits from around the world, which is wonderful.  We’ll have some audio for you soon, and hopefully we can broadcast next Wednesday.  We appreciate your support and interest!  New content will continue to be posted almost daily.  We would appreciate any comments on each entry!

As a special weekend promotion, a free store record with free shipping (anywhere in the world) will be mailed to whoever wins this music debate.  Keep it to a few paragraphs.  We’ll pick the winner and display the entry on Tuesday August 1st, announcing the winner!

Here it is:  Who’s the most important Detroit or Michigan area recording artist or group of all time, and tell us why!
